[CURATOR] 'GEKADERD' @ BEGIJNHOFKERK

Over the past decades, the Province of Limburg has assembled an impressive and diverse art collection — including decorative objects, sculptures, photographs, paintings, drawings, and prints, spanning from the 16th to the 21st century.
The exhibition GEKADERD presented 179 of these works: a broad selection ranging from photography and graphic art to painting and sculpture.

To make this abundance both accessible and meaningful, curators Herman Maes and Marc Milissen opted for a chronological approach. Visitors experienced — quite literally — the evolution of visual art from the 1500s to today.

The exhibition design, featuring depot-style walls, referenced the actual art storage facility at the Provincial Government House. It also allowed for an exceptionally rich and dense presentation.
The curators chose the Begijnhofkerk in Sint-Truiden — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — as the ideal setting, its historic wall and pillar paintings offering a resonant dialogue with the collection on view.
