[CURATOR] 'KAREL MAES IN CONGO' @ CCMAASMECHELEN

Karel Maes in Congo
Artist and curator Herman Maes presents an exhibition on his grandfather, Karel Maes — a pioneer of Belgian abstract art.
During the 1950s and ’60s, Karel Maes lived and worked in Congo, painting and designing furniture.
This exhibition explores how his visual language was shaped by encounters with African culture.
